Saturday’s Premier League programme delivered five completed matches, a prolific afternoon for Erling Haaland and a comeback win for Liverpool. Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham and Aston Villa all took three points.
Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3-2 at the Etihad. Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 19th minute, Daizen Maeda equalised, and Haaland struck twice — just before half-time and again in the 69th minute. Zian Flemming’s 90th-minute penalty made for a nervous finish, but City held on for a seventh win in seven league games.
Liverpool came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1. Keane Lewis-Potter put the hosts ahead, but the match shifted after Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off before the break. Victor Muñoz equalised in the second half and Alexander Isak scored the winner from a Bradley Barcola assist. Brentford later finished with nine men after another dismissal.
Chelsea won 2-0 at Everton through Pedro Neto’s second-half brace. Fulham edged Hull City 1-0 thanks to Alex Iwobi, while Aston Villa claimed a 1-0 away win at Newcastle, with Johan Manzambi scoring the decisive first-half goal.
City ended Saturday on 21 points and remained top of the table. Haaland’s double and Liverpool’s response at Brentford were among the day’s defining stories. This roundup covers the Premier League matches completed on Saturday, 17 October.
